LDS Module — D&C 107:48–57: Enoch in the Patriarchal Priesthood Line

From the latter day saint tradition

Doctrine & Covenants 107:48–57

Within the larger revelation on priesthood (D&C 107, given March 28, 1835), this passage describes a gathering at Adam-ondi-Ahman three years before Adam's death, at which Adam blesses his righteous posterity. Enoch is named in the line:

"Three years previous to the death of Adam, he called Seth, Enos, Cainan, Mahalaleel, Jared, Enoch, and Methuselah, who were all high priests, with the residue of his posterity who were righteous, into the valley of Adam-ondi-Ahman..." — D&C 107:53 (link to source below)

What's distinctive

  • Patriarchal priesthood lineage — Enoch sits within an unbroken priesthood chain from Adam.
  • Adam-ondi-Ahman — a specific named location (identified in LDS tradition with a site in Daviess County, Missouri).
  • Enoch's record of the gathering — D&C 107:57 says Enoch wrote a book preserving the events of the assembly; this is sometimes related in LDS commentary to traditions about Enoch's books (cf. 1 En 81:1–6, 82:1, 92:1, where Enoch writes a book for his sons).
