1 Enoch 104

I swear unto you, that in heaven the angels remember you for good before the glory of the Great One: and your names are written before the glory of the Great One.

In those days, saith the Lord, they shall call to the children of the earth, and make them listen to their wisdom. Show them that you are their leaders;

I swear to you, just ones, that in heaven the angels will have a remembrance concerning you for good l)efore the glory of the Great One. Your names will be written before the glory of the Great One.

Be hopeful; for aforetime ye were put to shame through ill and affliction; but now ye shall shine as the lights of heaven^a, ye shall shine and ye shall be seen, and the portals of heaven shall be opened to you.

And that renumeration *shall take place* over the whole earth; for I and my Son will for ever hold communion with them in the paths of uprightness, while they are still alive. [^l2] Peace shall be yours. Rejoice, children of integrity, in the truth.

Hope, for at first ye were disgraced in evil and need, but now ye will shine like the luminaries of heaven, and will be seen, and the portals of heaven will be opened to you.

And in your cry, cry for judgement, and it shall appear to you; for all your tribulation shall be visited on the rulers, and on all who helped those who plundered you.

Wait with patient hope; nor relinquish your confidence; for great joy shall be yours, like that of the angels in heaven. Conduct yourselves as you may, still you shall not be concealed in the day of the great judgment. You shall not be found like sinners; and eternal condemnation shall be far from you, so long as the world exists. [^l1]

And continue your cry for a judgment ; it will appear to you, for all your trouble will be avenged on the rulers, and on all those who help those who oppressed you.

Be hopeful, and cast not away your hopes for ye shall have great joy as the angels of heaven.

And now fear not, ye righteous, when you see sinners flourishing and prosperous [^l2] in their ways.

Hope, and do not cease your hope, for ye will have great joy, like the angels in heaven.

What shall ye be obliged to do? Ye shall not have to hide on the day of the great judgement and ye shall not be found as sinners, and the eternal judgement shall be far from you for all the generations of the world.

Be not associates with them; but keep yourselves at a distance from their oppression; be you associated with the host of heaven. You, ye sinners, say, All our transgressions shall not be taken account of, and be recorded. But all your transgressions shall be recorded daily.

Since such will be your?, ye will not hide on the day of the THE BOOK OF ENOCH. 259 great judgment, and ye will not be found as sinners, and the everlasting judgment will be far from you for all the generations of the world.

And now fear not, ye righteous, when ye see the sinners growing strong and prospering in their ways: be not companions with them, but keep afar from their violence; for ye shall become companions of the hosts of heaven.

And be assured by me, [^l1] that light and darkness, day and night, behold all your transgressions. Be not impious in your thoughts; lie not; surrender not the word of uprightness; lie not against the word of the holy and the mighty One; glorify not your idols; for all your lying and all your impiety is not for righteousness, but for great crime.

And now, fear not, ye just, when ye see the sinners strengthening and rejoicing in their desires, and be not associates with them, but keep far from their oppression, for ye shall be companions of the hosts of lieaven.

And, although ye sinners say: "All our sins shall not be searched out and be written down," nevertheless they shall write down all your sins every day. [paragraph continues]

Now will I point out a mystery: Many sinners shall turn and transgress against the word of uprightness.

Ye sinners, although ye say : " Ye cannot search it out, and all our sins are not written down" ; still they will continually write down your sins every day.

And now I show unto you that light and darkness, day and night, see all your sins.

They shall speak evil things; they shall utter falsehood; execute great undertakings; [^l2] and compose books in their own words. But when they shall write all my words correctly in their own languages,

And now I show it to you, that light and darkness, day and night, see all your sins.

Be not godless in your hearts, and lie not and alter not the words of uprightness, nor charge with lying the words of the Holy Great One, nor take account of your idols; for all your lying and all your godlessness issue not in righteousness but in great sin.

They shall neither change or diminish them; but shall write them all correctly; all which from the first I have uttered concerning them.

Be not impious in your hearts, and do not lie, and do not change the words of rectitude, and do not call a lie the words of the Holy and Great One, and donotglorify your idols; for all your untruths and all your impiety will not be to you for a justification, but for a great sin.

And now I know this mystery, that sinners will alter and pervert the words of righteousness in many ways, and will speak wicked words, and lie, and practice great deceits, and write books concerning their words.

Another mystery also I point out. To the righteous and the wise shall be given books of joy, of integrity, and of great wisdom. To them shall books be given, in which they shall believe;

And now, I know this mystery that the words of rectitude will be changed, and many sinners will rebel, and will speak wicked words, and will lie and make great works, and write books concerning their words.

But when they write down truthfully all my words in their languages, and do not change or minish ought from my words but write them all down truthfully--all that I first testified concerning them.

And in which they shall rejoice. And all the righteous shall be rewarded, who from these shall acquire the knowledge of every upright path.

But when they write all my words in rectitude in their languages, and do not change or abridge anything of my words, but write all in rectitude, all that I have first testified on their account, 12. then I know another mystery, that books will be given to the just and to the wise for joy and for rectitude and for much wisdom.

Then, I know another mystery, that books will be given to the righteous and the wise to become a cause of joy and uprightness and much wisdom.

And to them shall the books be given, and they shall believe in them and rejoice over them, and then shall all the righteous who have learnt therefrom all the paths of uprightness be recompensed.'

And the books will be given to them, and they will believe in them and will rejoice in them ; and then all the just, who have learned all the paths of rectitude out of them, will be rewarded.
