1 Enoch 93

And after that Enoch both †gave† and began to recount from the books. And Enoch said: 'Concerning the children of righteousness and concerning the elect of the world, And concerning the plant of uprightness, I will speak these things, Yea, I Enoch will declare (them) unto you, my sons: According to that which appeared to me in the heavenly vision, And which I have known through the word of the holy angels, And have learnt from the heavenly tablets.'

And now let me exhort you, my children, to love righteousness, and to walk in it; for the paths of righteousness are worthy of acceptation; but the paths of iniquity shall suddenly fail, and be diminished.

And after that Enoch commenced to relate out of the books.

To men of note in their generation the paths of oppression and death are revealed; but they keep far from them, and do not follow them.

And Enoch said : " Concerning the children of justice and concerning the chosen of the world and concerning the plant of justice and of rectitude, of these I will speak to you and announce to you, my children, I, Enoch, as it has appeared to me in a vision from heaven, and what I learned through the voice of the holy angels and understood from the tablets of heaven."

And Enoch began to recount from the books and said: 'I was born the seventh^a in the first week, While judgement and righteousness still endured.

Now, too, let me exhort you *who are* righteous, not to walk in the paths of evil and oppression, nor in the paths of death. Approach them not, that you may not perish; but covet,

And Enoch commenced to relate from the books, and said : " I was born the seventh in the first week, while judgment and justice were yet retarded.

And after me there shall arise in the second week great wickedness, And deceit shall have sprung up; And in it there shall be the first end. And in it a man shall be saved; And after it is ended unrighteousness shall grow up, And a law shall be made for the sinners.

And choose for yourselves righteousness, and a good life.

And there will arise after me in the second week great evil, and destruction wnll spring up ; and in it there will be the first end ; and in it a man will be saved ; and after it is finished injustice will grow, and he will make a law for the sinners.

And after that in the third week at its close A man shall be elected as the plant of righteous judgement, And his posterity shall become the plant of righteousness for evermore.

Walk in the paths of peace, that you may live, and be found worthy. Retain my words in your inmost thoughts, and obliterate them not from your hearts; for I know that sinners counsel men to commit crime craftily. They are not found in every place, nor does every counsel possess a little of them.

And after that, in the third week, in the end thereof, a man will be chosen as the plant of the judgment of justice, and after him the plant of justice will come forever.

And after that in the fourth week, at its close, Visions of the holy and righteous shall be seen, And a law for all generations and an enclosure shall be made for them.

Woe to those who build up iniquity and oppression, and who lay the foundation of fraud; for suddenly shall they be subverted, and never obtain peace.

And after that, in the fourth week, in the end thereof, visions of the holy and the just will be seen, and a law for all generations, and a court will be made for them.

And after that in the fifth week, at its close, The house of glory and dominion shall be built for ever.

Woe to those who build up their houses with crime; for from their very foundations shall their houses [^l1] be demolished, and by the sword shall they *themselves* fall. Those, too, who acquire gold and silver, shall justly and suddenly perish. Woe to you who are rich, for in your riches have you trusted; but from your riches you shall be removed; because you have not remembered the Most High in the days of your prosperity: [you shall be removed, because you have not remembered the Most High in the days of your prosperity. And after that, in the fifth week, in the end thereof, a house of glory and of supremacy will be built to eternity.

And after that in the sixth week all who live in it shall be blinded, And the hearts of all of them shall godlessly forsake wisdom. And in it a man shall ascend; And at its close the house of dominion shall be burnt with fire, And the whole race of the chosen root shall be dispersed.

You have committed blasphemy and iniquity; and. are destined to the day of the effusion of blood, to the day of darkness, and to the day of the great judgment.

And after that, in the sixth week, those who will exist in it will all be blinded, and their hearts will all forget wisdom, and in it a man will ascend ; and in the end thereof the house of supremacy will burn with fire, and the whole race of the chosen root will be cut off.

And after that in the seventh week^a shall an apostate generation arise, And many shall be its deeds, And all its deeds shall be apostate.

This I declare and point out to you, that he who created you will destroy you.

And after that, in the seventh week, a rebellious generation will THE BOOK OF ENOCH. 247 arise, and many will be their deeds, and all their deeds will be rebellious.

And at its close shall be elected The elect righteous of the eternal plant of righteousness, To receive sevenfold instruction concerning all His creation. [

When you fall, he will not show you mercy; but your Creator will rejoice in your destruction.

And in the end thereof the chosen just of the everlasting plant of justice will be rewarded ; seven portions of learning are given to them concerning all his creatures.

For who is there of all the children of men that is able to hear the voice of the Holy One without being troubled? And who can think His thoughts? and who is there that can behold all the works of heaven?

Let those, then, who shall be righteous among you in those days, detest sinners, and the ungodly.

And who is there of all the children of men that is able to hear the voice of the Holy One, and does not tremble, and who is able to think his thoughts, and who that is able to see all the works of heaven ? 12. And how could one know the deeds of heaven and be able to see his breath and his spirit, and be able to relate it, or ascend and see all their ends, and think them or act like them ? 13. And who is the man that is able to know what the breadth and the length of the earth is, and to whom has the measure of them all been shown ? 14. Or is there any man who is able to know the length of heaven, and what is its height, and upon what it is established, and what is the measure as regards the number of the stars, and where all the luminaries rest ?

And how should there be one who could behold the heaven, and who is there that could understand the things of heaven and see a soul or a spirit and could tell thereof, or ascend and see all their ends and think them or do like them?
