1 Enoch 84

And I lifted up my hands in righteousness and blessed the Holy and Great One, and spake with the breath of my mouth, and with the tongue of flesh, which God has made for the children of the flesh of men, that they should speak therewith, and He gave them breath and a tongue and a mouth that they should speak therewith:

After this I saw another dream, and explained it all to thee, my son. Enoch arose and said to his son Mathusala, To thee, my son, will I speak. Hear my word; and incline thine ear to the visionary dream of thy father. Before I married thy mother Edna, I saw a vision on my bed;

And I raised my hands in justice, and blessed the Holy and the Great One, and I spoke with the breath of my mouth and with the tongue of flesli, which God has made for the children of men, that thoy 208 THE BOOK OF ENOCH. should speak with it, and gave them breath and the tongue and the mouth, that they might speak therewith:

'Blessed be Thou, O Lord, King, Great and mighty in Thy greatness, Lord of the whole creation of the heaven, King of kings and God of the whole world. And Thy power and kingship and greatness abide for ever and ever, And throughout all generations Thy dominion; And all the heavens are Thy throne for ever, And the whole earth Thy footstool for ever and ever.

And behold, a cow sprung forth from the earth;

" Blessed art thou, 0 Lord, King both great and powerful in thy greatness, the Lord of all the creation of heaven. King of kings, and God of all the world, thy Godship and thy kingdom and thy greatness will remain in eternity, and to all eternity, and to all the generations thy power, and all the heavens are tliy throne in eternity, and all the earth thy footstool in eternity and to all eternity.

For Thou hast made and Thou rulest all things, And nothing is too hard for Thee, Wisdom departs not from the place of Thy throne^a, Nor turns away from Thy presence. And Thou knowest and seest and hearest everything, And there is nothing hidden from Thee [for Thou seest everything].

And this cow was white.

For thou hast made and dost govern all things, and nothing is too difficult for thee, and no wisdom escapes thee ; she does not turn away from her throne, thy throne, and not from thy face, and thou dost know and see and hear all things, and there is nothing that is hidden before thee, for thou dost see all things.

And now the angels of Thy heavens are guilty of trespass, And upon the flesh of men abideth Thy wrath until the great day of judgement.

Afterwards a female heifer sprung forth; and with it another heifer: [^l3] one of them was black, and one was red. [^l4]

And now the angels of thy heavens do sin, and thy wrath is over the flesh of men to the day of the great judgment.

And now, O God and Lord and Great King, I implore and beseech Thee to fulfil my prayer, To leave me a posterity on earth, And not destroy all the flesh of man, And make the earth without inhabitant, So that there should be an eternal destruction.

The black heifer then struck the red one, and pursued it over the earth.

And now, God and Lord and great King, I petition and ask that thou wouldst establish my prayer for me, that there remain to me a posterity on earth, and that thou wouldst not annihilate all the flesh of men, and not make empty the whole earth, and there be an everlasting destruction.

And now, my Lord, destroy from the earth the flesh which has aroused Thy wrath, But the flesh of righteousness and uprightness establish as a plant of the eternal seed^a, And hide not Thy face from the prayer of Thy servant, O Lord.'

From that period I could see nothing more of the red heifer; but the black one increased in bulk, and a female heifer came with him.

After this I saw that many cows proceeded forth, resembling him, and following after him.

The first female young one also went out in the presence of the first cow; and sought the red heifer; but found him not.

And now, my Lord, annihilate from the earth the flesh which has angered thee, but the flesh of justice and of rectitude establish as a plant of the seed to eternity, and do not hide thy face from the prayer of thy servant, O Lord ! '*

And she lamented with a great lamentation, while she was seeking him.
