1 Enoch 94

And now I say unto you, my sons, love righteousness and walk therein; For the paths of righteousness are worthy of acceptation, But the paths of unrighteousness shall suddenly be destroyed and vanish.

O that my eyes were clouds of water, that I might weep over you, and pour forth my tears like rain, [^l1] and rest from the sorrow of my heart!

And now I say to you, my children, love justice and walk in it, for the paths of justice are worthy that they be accepted ; and the paths of injustice are destroyed suddenly and cease.

And to certain men of a generation shall the paths of violence and of death be revealed, And they shall hold themselves afar from them, And shall not follow them.

Who has permitted you to hate and to transgress? Judgment shall overtake you, ye sinners.

And to certain men of a future generation tlie paths of violence and of death will be revealed, and they will retreat from them, and will not follow them.

And now I say unto you the righteous: Walk not in the paths of wickedness, nor in the paths of death, And draw not nigh to them, lest ye be destroyed.

The righteous shall not fear the wicked; because God will again bring them into your power, that you may avenge yourselves of them according to your pleasure.

And now I say to you, the just: Do not walk in the wicked path and in violence, and not in the paths of death, and do not approach them, that ye be not destroyed.

But seek and choose for yourselves righteousness and an elect life, And walk in the paths of peace, And ye shall live and prosper.

Woe to you who shall be so bound by execrations, that you cannot be released from them; the remedy being far removed from you on account of your sins. Woe to you who recompense your neighbour with evil; for you shall be recompensed according to your works.

But love and choose for yourselves justice and a pleasing life, and walk in the paths of peace, that ye may live and have joy.

And hold fast my words in the thoughts of your hearts, And suffer them not to be effaced from your hearts; For I know that sinners will tempt men to evilly-entreat wisdom, So that no place may be found for her, And no manner of temptation may minish. XCIV. 6-

Woe to you, ye false witnesses, you who aggravate iniquity; for you shall suddenly perish.

And hold in the thoughts of your hearts, and let not my words be eradicated from your hearts, for I know that 248 THE BOOK OF ENOCH. the sinners will deceive men to make wisdom wicked, and it [i.e. wisdom] will not find a place, and all kinds of temptations will not cease. G. Woe to those who build injustice and violence, and found deception, fur they will be rooted out suddenly, and will have no peace.

Woe to those who build unrighteousness^a and oppression And lay deceit as a foundation; For they shall be suddenly overthrown, And they shall have no peace.

Woe to you, ye sinners; for you reject the righteous; for you receive or reject *at pleasure* those who *commit* iniquity; and their yoke shall prevail over you.

Woe to those who build their houses with sin; For from all their foundations shall they be overthrown, And by the sword shall they fall. [And those who acquire gold and silver in judgement suddenly shall perish.]

Woe to you, ye rich^a, for ye have trusted in your riches, And from your riches shall ye depart, Because ye have not remembered the Most High in the days of your riches.

Thus I speak and declare unto you: He who hath created you will overthrow you, And for your fall there shall be no compassion, And your Creator will rejoice at your destruction.

Thus I speak to you, and announce to you that he who has created you will destroy you from the foundation, and over your fall there will be no pity, and your Creator will rejoice in your destruction.

And your righteous ones in those days shall be A reproach to the sinners and the godless.

And your just in those days will be a disgrace to sinners and the impious.
