1 Enoch 98

And now I swear unto you, to the wise and to the foolish, For ye shall have manifold experiences on the earth.

In those days shall fathers be struck down with their children in the presence of each other; [^l1] and brethren with their brethren shall fall dead: until a river shall flow from their blood.

And now I swear to you, the wise and the foolish ; for ye will see much on this earth.

For ye men shall put on more adornments than a woman, And coloured garments more than a virgin: In royalty and in grandeur and in power, And in silver and in gold and in purple, And in splendour and in food they shall be poured out as water.

For a man shall not restrain his hand from his children, nor from his children's children; his mercy will be to kill them. [^l2]

For ye, men, will put on more ornaments than the women, and colored stuffs more than the virgin ; in royalty, and in greatness, and in power, and in silver, and in gold, and purple and honor, and in food, they will float away like water.

Therefore they shall be wanting in doctrine and wisdom, And they shall perish thereby together with their possessions; And with all their glory and their splendour, And in shame and in slaughter and in great destitution, Their spirits shall be cast into the furnace of fire.

Nor shall the sinner restrain his hand from his honoured brother. From the dawn of day to the setting sun shall the slaughter continue. [^l3] The horse shall wade up to his breast, and the chariot shall sink to its axle, [^l4] in the blood of sinners.

And therefore they will have no knowledge and no wisdom, and thereby they are destroyed THE BOOK OF ENOCH. 251 together with their treasures, and with all their glory and their honor, and in shame and in murder and in great poverty their spirits will he cast into an oven of fire.

I have sworn unto you, ye sinners, as a mountain has not become a slave, And a hill does not become the handmaid of a woman, Even so sin has not been sent upon the earth, But man of himself has created it, And under a great curse shall they fall who commit it.

And now know that ye are prepared for the day of destruction, and do not hope that ye will live, ye sinners, but ye shall depart and die, for ye do not know a ransom ; for ye are prepared for the day of the great judgment, and for the day of trouble and of great disgrace to your souls.

And now, know ye that ye are prepared for the day of destruction: wherefore do not hope to live, ye sinners, but ye shall depart and die; for ye know no ransom; for ye are prepared for the day of the great judgement, for the day of tribulation and great shame for your spirits.
