1 Enoch 26

And I went from thence to the middle of the earth^a, and I saw a blessed place ⌈in which there were trees⌉ with branches abiding and blooming [of a dismembered tree].

Then I said, What means this blessed land, all these lofty trees, and the accursed valley between them?

And from here I went to the middle of the earth, and saw a place, blessed and fruitful, where there were branches which rooted in and sprouted out of a tree that was cut.

And there I saw a holy mountain, ⌈⌈and⌉⌉ underneath the mountain to the east there was a stream and it flowed towards the south.

Then Uriel, one of the holy angels who were with me, replied, This valley is the accursed of the accursed for ever. Here shall be collected all who utter with their mouths unbecoming language against God, and speak harsh things of His glory. Here shall they be collected. Here shall be their territory.

And here I saw a holy mountain, and beneath the mountain, towards the eatt, water which flowed towards the south.

And I saw towards the east another mountain higher than this, and between them a deep and narrow ravine^a: in it also ran a stream ⌈underneath⌉ the mountain.

In the latter days an example of judgment shall be made of them in righteousness before the saints: while those who have received mercy shall for ever, all their days, bless God, the everlasting King.

And I saw towards the east another mountain of the same height, and between them a deep valley, but not broad : therein also water flowed along the mountain.

And to the west thereof there was another mountain, lower than the former and of small elevation, and a ravine ⌈deep and dry⌉ between them: and another deep and dry ravine was at the extremities of the three ⌈mountains⌉.

And at the period of judgment shall they bless Him for his mercy, as He has distributed it to them. Then I blessed God, addressing myself to Him, and making mention, as was meet, of His greatness.

And towards the THE BOOK OP ENOCH. 101 west of this was another mountain, lower than the former, not high, and below, between them a valley ; and other deep and sterile valleys were at the end of the three.

And all the ravines were deep ⌈⌈and narrow⌉⌉, (being formed) of hard rock, and trees were not planted upon them.

And all the valleys were deep and not broad, of hard rock. And trees were planted upon tliem.

And I marveled ⌈⌈at the rocks, and I marveled⌉⌉ at the ravine, yea, I marveled very much.

And I was astonished on account of the rocks, and was astonished on account of the valley, and was very much astonished.
